Cubic Formation (四師方陣, Yonshi Hōjin) is the 174th chapter of the Kekkaishi Manga written and illustrated by Yellow Tanabe.
Summary[]
On a Kekkai above the school, Tokiko Yukimura explains the plan: she will create the initial structure and footholds for the Kekkai. Tokiko admits that her biggest concern is Yoshimori, since the Kekkai will depend on their complete synchronization and their powers complementing each other. As they separate, Yoshimori apologizes to Tokine for his earlier actions, but she says it's okay and wishes him good luck.
Shu Akitsu calls Sen Kagemiya and tells him that things in the school have gotten even worse. Sen tells him to come outside and explains the plan. Shu is confused that the Kekkaishi would work together, since they are supposed to be rivals. Sen says it's more complicated than that. Shu uses his wings to fly into the sky with Sen on his back so they can observe.
With one Kekkaishi positioned at each corner of the school, Tokiko initiates the Kekkai. Yoshimori and Tokine are both unsettled by the sensation, but manage to proceed through the steps of accepting the power of the other Kekkaishi, adding their own, focusing it until it is stabilized, and then acting as a pillar to send the power upward. They manage to form the Kekkai successfully.
In class, Yurina Kanda is still worred by there being so many butterflies. Suddenly, the butterflies are all collected by the Kekkai as it gradually moves upwards and through the ceiling, taking the butterflies with it. Most of the Kekkaishi are strained as they boost themselves up into the air with elevator Kekkai, slowly raisng the Kekkai filled with butterflies above the school. However, Sen notices that the Kekkai has become unstable and is close to collapsing.
