Legitimate Heir (正統継承者, Seitō Keishōsha) is the 54th chapter of the Kekkaishi Manga written and illustrated by Yellow Tanabe.
Summary[]
Yoshimori realizes he is not making much progress in his mid-air battle against Ookubiguruma and tries to come up with a new strategy. Suddenly, Gen Shishio leaps onto Yoshimori's Kekkai and says Yoshimori can't stop the Ayakashi from moving. Gen abruptly launches himself off of the Kekkai and grabs onto Ookubiguruma, who shakes him off by spinning rapidly, but not before Gen tears off one of the spikes.
On the ground, Hakubi explains to Tokine that Gen isn't like other ability users who use Ayakashi, in that as an Ayakashi Majiri, he has the strength of an Ayakashi within him. Hakubi adds that Ayakashi Majiri are powerful physically, and are able to regenerate. Tokine worries about Gen being influnenced by Karasumori, but Hakubi says his body is still human, and as long as he doesn't transform, it shouldn't be an issue.
Gen continues to struggle with Ookubiguruma, additionally transforming his feet for more power. This concerns Tokine, and Hakubi agrees he should be more cautious. Still, he admits to being impressed with the way Gen is able to restrain his power, which requires grueling training and a strong will.
Ookubiguruma gets annoyed with Gen, finally admitting that it has no reason to destroy him. Yoshimori overhears and demands an explanation. The Ayakashi says there is a bounty on Yoshimori. Gen watches them for a moment, and suddenly leaps back into the air, bouncing off of Yoshimori's various Kekkai to gain speed and attack the Ayakashi.
Yoshimori sees his chance and knocks Ookubiguruma into the school. To prevent the Ayakashi from spinning, Yoshimori creates a Kekkai only around the head, and demands to know where he got his information from. The Ayakashi claims not to know much, so Yoshimori destroys it. Gen is amazed that Yoshimori was able to defeat the Ayakashi, and angrily realizes Yoshimori used him to win. Meanwhile Yoshimori wonders if he was targeted because he is a Legitimate Successor.
